Yangon has earned the name of the Garden City of the East with the magnificent Shwedagon Pagoda dominating the city skyline. Plated with more than 30 tonnes of gold and towering 99 metres over the city, the tip of the pagoda is set with diamonds, rubies, topaz and sapphires.
Old colonial buildings are frequent sites in the city with the City Hall as one of the grandest. Two lakes, Kandawgyi, close to the city centre and Inya, outside town, add to the pleasant atmosphere.
Other places of interest to visit in Yangon during your stay in Myanmar include National Museum, Zoological Garden, Wildlife Park in Hlawga and the People’s Park on Pyay Road.
